5 Online Forum Marketing Tips

Forums, Internet Marketing No Comments »

Forums are a part of the internet community for a very long time. This is one of the easiest ways to communicate with other people all over the world about your shared interest, asking question and getting answers. Online forum marketing is still one of my favorite ways to socialize with people and promoting my internet home business while making connections.

How PageRank helps your search engine optimization efforts

SEO No Comments »

If you’ve followed my blog posts very long, then you know that I am NOT one of these “gurus” who claims that PageRank is the be-all-end-all of ranking in Google.

In fact, having a high PageRank does not guarantee your site will rank for anything in Google.  The claim that high PR equals good rankings is one of the myths I destroyed in my Search Engine Myths Exposed report early last year.

Find the right Firefox add-ons

Tools No Comments »

If you’re a Firefox user, chances are you’ve been using add-ons to extend its functionality. But if you haven’t, or if you’re looking for new add-ons, I’ve found 20 for you to try. But since installing all 20 will probably slow your browser to a crawl, I’ve broken them into four categories. I have grouped the add-ons into “packs” for business professionals, shoppers, social-network fanatics, and students.

Which web host should you use?

Tips No Comments »

This morning Joel emailed me some useful stuffs I would like to share with all my readers.

The reproduce the email in full as follows:

Hey Ainuddin,

If you are going to have your own web site, it’s important that you select a quality web host.

Where you have your site hosted can make the difference between a successful website and a failure.  It’s that important.

So here are the things you need to look for in a web host…

1) Unlimited disk space - you don’t want to run out of disk space when people are trying to access your site.

2) Unlimited bandwidth - It’s important that your host be able to deliver your content in the event that a lot of people are visiting your site at the same time.

3) Unlimited websites - You may start with one site, but you may find you want to launch others as well.  This option is important.

4) Free setup - there’s no reason you should be paying setup fees.

5) 99.9% uptime guarantee - No one can guarantee 100% uptime, but some hosts can get awfully close.

6) Installed software for systems, database, scripting, email and more -  This will appear as CGI, Perl, MySQL, SSH, POP and other acronyms I don’t understand.  It’s ok, you don’t need to understand them either.

7) CPanel hosting - this is the defacto control panel making it easy to administer your site

8) 24/7 support - I have been with hosts who didn’t answer their phones.  It’s scary.  Support is critical.

9) No contracts or hidden fees - everything should be made clear

10) A fair price - Most hosts start at $10 or so per month.  That’s not bad, but there is better.

I’ve used a number of web hosts in the past fifteen years.  I’ve had some nightmarish experiences and I’ve had some great experiences.

So I am frequently asked who I recommend for web hosting.

The host I’ve found that meets all of the above requirements and beats the price on all others is HostGator.

In fact, several of my servers are with them TODAY!

I guess that says it all.

So don’t sweat it as you look for the perfect web host.  I’m happy with Host Gator’s service and I think you will be as well.

Try the coupon code “LUCKY” and you may get a discount on services.  I’m not sure if it still works but it’s worth a try.  If not, their prices are already low enough that it won’t matter.

Happy hosting!

Do good stuff,

Joel Comm

Microsoft worst products

Software No Comments »

Some Microsoft names sound clunky; some are confusing; some are undignified or overambitious. More than any other company in technology, the software powerhouse loves to change product names — often replacing one lackluster label with an equally uninspired one.

If you want Twitter to be more powerful, use Power Twitter. Whether you want to automatically add hashtags to a tweet, expand URLs, add in-line YouTube, Flickr, and TwitPic content, or see a person’s status history with a simple mouseover, Power Twitter will do it.
