Promoting Your Facebook Page

Now that you’ve created a compelling, content-rich Facebook page, you need to get the word out about it. Here are several good ways to promote your page and get people to “like” it.

• Secure a custom username—Creating a short, memorable name that’s easy for people to remember helps encourage page visitors. For more information, see “Creating a Custom Username” later in this section.

• Add a Like Box to your website or blog—For more information, see “Add a Like Box to Your Website or Blog” later in this section.

• Invite your friends to your Facebook page—To do so, click the Suggest to Friends link on the right side of your page’s, select the friends you want to invite, and click the Send Recommendations button.

• Share information about your page to your profile—To do so, click the Share link at the bottom of your page’s left column. Enter any comments in the dialog box and then click the Share button.

• Promote your page with an ad—Click the Promote with an Ad link on the right side of your page to create your ad. Remember that there are costs associated with advertising on Facebook.

• Share on the social web—Spread the news about your new page with your audience on other social sites such as Twitter, LinkedIn, and others.

• Share with your subscribers—If you publish an ezine, be sure to include a link to your Facebook page in every issue.

To keep tabs on the success of your promotional efforts, click the View Insights link on the right side your page. You can view your monthly active users, daily new likes, daily post views, and daily post feedback.

Creating a Custom Username

If at least 25 people like your Facebook page, you can secure a custom username for it. For example, when you first create your page, Facebook could assign you a URL like this: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Patrice-Anne-Rutledge/ 143355035682739. A custom username enables you to create a shorter, more memorable URL for your page, such as http://www.facebook.com/AuthorPatriceRutledge, that you can promote on your website, blog, or business card.
